Back-to-School Buzz: Our Favorite Charleston Coffee Shops

Getting back into the school routine can feel like a jolt—thank goodness for coffee! Whether you’re sneaking in a quiet moment between drop-offs, grabbing fuel before soccer practice, or looking for a cozy spot to knock out some work, Charleston has plenty of local gems ready to keep you caffeinated. Bonus: most of these shops also serve up fresh pastries, bagels, or kid-approved treats, so everyone in the family leaves happy.

Here are a few of our go-to favorites around town:

Babas on Cannon (Downtown)
A Charleston classic, Babas blends European café vibes with Lowcountry charm. Their espresso drinks are spot-on, and the atmosphere makes it the perfect place to pause and reset during a busy day downtown. Don’t skip the pastries—they’re as pretty as they are delicious.

🥯 Blondie’s Bagels & Café (Daniel Island)
Coffee and bagels are a match made in heaven, and Blondie’s does both right. Whether you’re fueling up after morning drop-off or grabbing a dozen to bring home, their menu is a win for both adults and kids.

🍊 Orange Spot Coffee (Park Circle)
This cozy neighborhood shop is known for its friendly baristas and community feel. Their signature iced Thai tea latte is a must-try, and the shaded outdoor seating makes it a perfect pit stop if you’ve got kids (or pups!) in tow.

🌿 Muddy Waters (James Island)
Locals love Muddy Waters for its laid-back vibe and strong coffee game. It’s a great spot to settle in with a laptop, or grab a latte on your way to Folly. Pro tip: their muffins make an excellent bribe for reluctant homework-doers.

Highfaluten (West Ashley)
Trendy and fun, Highfaluten has a creative drink menu that goes way beyond your standard latte. Think lavender lattes and seasonal specials that make your morning coffee feel like a treat. Plus, their airy space is perfect for catching up with a friend.

🌸 Café de Fleur (Summerville)
This Summerville favorite feels like stepping into a Parisian café. Their coffee is smooth, their pastries are picture-perfect, and the atmosphere is just as inviting for a solo coffee run as it is for a mom meet-up after school drop-off.

No matter which part of the Lowcountry you’re in, there’s a local coffee shop waiting to give you that extra boost to power through the back-to-school season. Here’s to caffeine, community, and making routines just a little bit sweeter.
