February in Charleston: Events, Celebrations & Black History Month

February may be the shortest month of the year, but in Charleston it’s anything but quiet. The calendar is packed with celebrations that bring people together, from Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s gatherings to Mardi Gras festivities, Lunar New Year celebrations, and one of the city’s most anticipated annual traditions, the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. Add in food and drink events, live music, theater performances, markets, and family-friendly experiences, and February quickly proves it’s one of the most dynamic months of the year. Whether you’re sipping espresso martinis, strolling through a flea market, enjoying a concert, or spending a day downtown during SEWE, there’s no shortage of ways to experience Charleston at its best.

February also marks Black History Month, and Charleston offers meaningful ways to honor and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of the Black community throughout the month. From Black History Month celebrations at Boone Hall Plantation to guided history tours at the Aiken-Rhett and Nathaniel Russell Houses, these events invite deeper reflection and learning. Cultural experiences like sweetgrass basket weaving workshops, Gullah Geechee storytelling, music performances, and food-centered events such as Taste of Gullah Geechee highlight traditions that are foundational to Charleston’s identity. Museums and arts organizations, including MOJA and local dance companies, also host performances and programs that celebrate Black history through music, movement, and storytelling.

Taken together, February in Charleston is a month filled with connection, culture, and celebration. Whether you’re honoring history, celebrating love, or simply looking for something fun to do, there’s truly something for everyone. We love sharing what’s happening around the Lowcountry and hope this month inspires you to get out, explore, and experience everything Charleston has to offer.
