Charleston’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations go back more than 200 years. Irish immigrants began arriving in the Lowcountry in large numbers in the late 1700s, and in 1801 they founded the Hibernian Society of Charleston to support newly arriving Irish families. The society helped establish one of Charleston’s most beloved traditions—the annual Charleston St. Patrick’s Day Parade—which still fills the streets with Irish pride, music, and plenty of green every March.
Today, the celebration has grown well beyond the parade. From the Park Circle St. Patrick’s Day Block Party & Parade to brewery parties, bar crawls, and festive community events, there are plenty of ways to join the fun around the Lowcountry. Whether you’re planning to grab a pint with friends, enjoy a parade downtown, or check out one of the many themed events happening across Charleston, this week is full of shamrocks, celebrations, and a little Lowcountry luck. 🍀
