Earth Day Every Day: Giving Back to the Lowcountry We Love

At Coastal Island Properties, we spend a lot of time showing off the beauty of Charleston—the waterfront views, the winding creeks, the marsh sunsets, and the incredible outdoor lifestyle that makes the Lowcountry so special. But this Earth Day, we were reminded that protecting those places is just as important as enjoying them.

As a team, we try to participate in a volunteer event every quarter as part of our commitment to giving back to the community we serve. With Earth Day just passing, it felt like the perfect time to get our hands dirty (literally) and help make a difference. This week, our team partnered with the Charleston Paddle Club for a marsh cleanup at Magnolia Landing—and it was an incredible experience.

Why Magnolia Landing Matters

While still under development, Magnolia Landing is already becoming one of Charleston’s most talked-about waterfront projects. Set along 1.5 miles of the Ashley River, this future mixed-use community will bring together homes, parks, businesses, restaurants, and public waterfront spaces—all while embracing the natural beauty of the Lowcountry.

With so much of the property surrounded by marsh and waterways, protecting the environment in and around Magnolia Landing is incredibly important. Litter, debris, and pollution can impact wildlife, water quality, and the natural beauty that makes this area so special.

That’s why events like this cleanup matter.

Not only are we helping preserve Charleston’s marshes and waterways today, but we’re also helping protect the future of a space that will soon become an exciting new part of our city.

Teaming Up for a Cleaner Charleston

This cleanup was organized by some incredible local organizations: Charleston Waterkeeper, The M.A.R.S.H. Project, The Sustainability Institute, and Magnolia Landing.

We also loved teaming up with Charleston Paddle Club—an organization close to our hearts, especially since our very own Desiree is a longtime member. As lovers of the water, Charleston Paddle Club places a huge emphasis on giving back and protecting our local waterways, making them the perfect partner for this event.

Together, volunteers collected an incredible 336 pounds of trash—and that doesn’t even include one giant tire that was pulled from the marsh.

And because no cleanup event is complete without a few unexpected discoveries… some of the strangest items found included:

🎳 A bowling pin
🐾 A coyote trap

You truly never know what you’ll find in the marsh.

Why Giving Back Matters to Us

At Coastal Island Properties, community involvement is a huge part of who we are.

Whether we’re donating through our Closing for a Cause program, hosting charity events like Dogs, Donuts & Donations, or volunteering our time for causes like this, we believe real estate is about more than just buying and selling homes—it’s about investing in the community and lifestyle that make Charleston such an amazing place to live.

Earth Day may only come once a year, but caring for our community and environment is something we can all practice every day.

If you’ve been looking for ways to get involved locally, organizations like Charleston Waterkeeper and Charleston Paddle Club host amazing opportunities throughout the year.

And if you’re looking for a team that loves Charleston as much as you do—we’d love to help you find your place here. 🩵
